Grassroots Movement Encourages a New Type of Recycling

Element has recently joined in on the grassroots movement that encourages a new type of recycling.  The Freecycle Network™ was started in 2003, and it is all about giving useful and unwanted belongings to local people so it stays out of landfills.  It is a worldwide e-network that is made up of many individual groups across the globe.

“We previously ordered 100 flashlights that came with cases.  We had no use for the cases and they were cluttering our office for sometime.  Through The Green Bay Area Freecycle™, I found a person who could use them for his maintenance business.  All I had to do was mail the box to him and they were out of the office,” said Account Coordinator Jenni Becher.

Unlike other e-networks that offer classified postings, Freecycle™ is completely free.  It doesn’t cost anything to list unwanted items on a local group, and everything that is posted is offered for free.  Currently The Freecycle Network™ is in over 85 countries with millions of members.  Since the beginning, over 500 tons have been kept out of landfills because of Freecycle™.

Element is committed to conserving the environment.  In 2009, Element will be reusing materials and will continue to stay green during the construction of our new building.

The information about The Freecycle Network™ was obtained from  www.freecycle.org. For more information about the local Green Bay network, visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GreenBay_FreeCycle.
