What Do Sonic the Hedgehog and Our New Web Developer Have in Common?

Sonic is a blue, anthropomorphic hedgehog with super speed who is one of the most-recognizable video game characters of all time.

Jess Brisson is a thick-bearded, bespectacled web developer with a wife and two kids who just started working at Element.

Where do these two intersect? Let’s dive in and find out …

One thing that sets Element apart from many other agencies is that we employ in-house developers. At other agencies, that’s not always the case.

Typically, agencies will come up with a concept for a website redesign and then outsource the development of the site.

Our belief is that having web developers in the same building is better for us and better for our clients. It gives the account executive, the designers, and the copywriters easy access to the guys who work magic with code. All that improved communication means your website is built more efficiently and effectively!

Our developers work on around 100 websites every year and create dozens of them from scratch! So getting things finished and staying in constant communication is crucial.

Jess Brisson brings a fresh perspective to our team. He’s a graduate of Fox Valley Technical College’s Web Development & Design program and has spent time working as a developer for two other area firms.

Jess says he comes from a family of artistic people, and their appreciation for the arts as well as innovation has rubbed off on him.

“My family was a bunch of geeky artists that loved art and technology. I just fell right in, and web development is the best of both worlds,” Jess says.

His interest in technology may have started with his favorite childhood video game character. That’s a fact that came out when we asked Jess about what celebrity he admired most as a kid.

“When I was a child, my ideas of celebrities were a bit different than now,” he explains. “With that being said, I would have to say Mega Man. What isn’t there to like about a power hijacking super cyborg that fights in the name of justice?”

At Element, we’re strong believers in constant improvement. That means learning new skills, getting out of our comfort zones to try new things, and just getting better at what we do.

Jess has a similar personal philosophy – including a thirst for knowledge.

“My greatest accomplishment is my constant drive for knowledge and continual learning. No, I wouldn’t say putting 500+ hours into Fallout is an accomplishment over an obsession.”

Okay, so that’s two mentions of video games, which got us thinking …

If Jess Brisson was a legendary video game character, who would he be?

As you’ve no doubt already guessed, it wasn’t Mega Man. Turns out Jess has a whole lot in common with Sonic the Hedgehog. At least according to the highly-unscientific personality test from we made him take.

Here’s what Jess’s results had to say about his personality …

You are – Sonic the Hedgehog

sonic the hedgehog

Free-spirited, easy going, and eccentric, you live how you want and do as you please. You value freedom above all else and do not like to be held down by rules and conventions.

Others often misjudge you because you have very unique views on morals and justice. For you, your ideals and values come first, no matter what the case. You look at life in the big picture and ignore the little facts and details, something not big enough will not be worth your time doing at all.

Your hatred for rules often causes you to be labeled by many as rebellious but remember, you are the change you want to see in this world.

Free-spirited, easy-going, and eccentric? Big picture thinking with big goals? A little bit of a rebellious rule-breaker with plans to change the world?

Sounds like Jess is going to fit in just fine around here. Welcome to the team!

Now … what would happen if Sonic and Mega Man joined forces? Actually, someone else already thought of that and made a comic book about it. Check out the video below!
